“Voting is the most precious right of every citizen, and we have a moral obligation to ensure the integrity of our voting process” ~Hillary Clinton
Why is my vote important?
It is your responsibility as a free citizen of Canada to be able to vote. You have the right to vote, and there are a lot of people in the world that do not have that right, and you should take advantage of the fact that you live in a free country, with a democratic government.
Your right to vote is a fundamental right that is protected by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It is a main part, or a "cornerstone" in a democratic society, because without it democracy would not be democracy.
When you vote, you are choosing the person that will represent your needs and wants in a government. You are choosing someone that will be on your side no matter what.
If you don't vote, it could be the difference between the party that is best suited to run the country running it, or a party that will just stir everything up and dramatically hurt the country. An example of this was when George W. Bush became the president of the United States of America, which is also a democratically run country, and he won the election by under 1,000 votes. He created a lot of debt, which forced the United States of America into a minor depression that they are still struggling to get out of. This proves that every vote does really count!
Voting is a great way to show your appreciation for the rights that you do have, and to support the country that you live in. It should be a country that you are proud to say you live in. Voting is the easiest and most effective way for you to communicate your thoughts to the politicians,

It is especially important for the youth to vote because they are the future of the country
Why is it important for the young people to vote?
Only 37.4% of youth (people aged 18-24) voted at the general election in 2008, and the percentage has been going down more and more over the years. Politicians know that the young voters group doesn't tend to vote very often, and when they know that kind of information in advance, they tend to focus on that group less and focus more on higher voting groups. Politicians will also be less interested in trying to change laws on issues that are important to young people, because such a small percentage vote.
Most say that young people tend not to vote because they just don't care. It doesn't interest them, and nothing for them is really changing or will change if someone else was to be elected, so they decide not to make the effort of researching who to vote for, and going through the actual voting process.
By not voting, the young people of Canada are determining the future of their country, and it doesn't look too bright. They are missing out on a huge opportunity to have their voices heard on major issues that they are concerned with.
